His Excellency the Most Reverend Dr. Miklós Beer, diocesan of VácAfter the destructive 150 years of Turkish Conquest, excellent bishops revived the town of Vác and the diocese. The diocese owes its most important values to the constructions and patronage of art of bishops Kristóf Migazzi and the Althanns. Year by year, Börzsöny Baroque Days evoke this golden age in the churches of little villages hidden among the enchanting Börzsöny Hills or situated in the episcopal seat, Vác. Thus the concerts offering mainly beautiful church music will have worthy venues. Although the programmes mostly include baroque music, they sometimes go back to earlier periods, the Middle Ages and the Reneissance.

I am especially pleased that in the 250-year-old Dominican Church in the renewed main square there will be a particularly great event in the festival: the closing concert will be given by the most significant representative of the famous English vocal culture, The Hilliard Ensemble. Their programme will include the most precious musical treasures of the Church, excellent pieces of Gregorian and renaissance polyphony. Without these valuable pieces, European Christian culture would not be complete. Börzsöny Baroque Days foster, preserve and renew these values, giving unique musical and spiritual experiences to the audience.

As a chief patron, I am glad to support the festival’s concept and I reccommend the concerts to your kind attention.
